Quarterly Reporting Map Series

Date

December 2025

Role

GIS Analyst & Cartographer

Tools

ArcGIS Pro, Airtable, Loom

Data Sources

County Boundary: US Census Tiger/Line (2025), Project Treatment Data: Forester and Operator provided project treatment data, Parcel data: Tuolumne County GIS team

Methodology

Main Map:
- Identified all invoices associated with the specific grantor
- Imported the internal project layer with all of our treatment for each project
- Confirmed it was the correct projection
- Used the Explode tool to separate the Project layer, a multipart feature layer
- Used the Calculate Geometry tool to calculate the acres of each individual shapefile
- Found the connection between the invoiced acres and the project treatment shapefiles based on acreage
-Imported the parcel boundaries data
- Confirmed that all data was projected correctly
- Selected all parcels that are overlapped by project data
- Exported the parcels as the final parcel layer
- Updated the parcel symbology using the papercut style and ~50% transparency
- Included the parcel numbers on the parcel (per the request of the grantor), but updated the font to include a halo

Extent Indicator Map:
- Uploaded the Tuolumne County Boundary
- Updated the symbology and basemap to keep it minimalistic and informative

Layout:
- Added bookmarks to each project area
- Imported a map series based on bookmarks to show each project area
- Updated the Invoiced acres to reflect their acreage using dynamic text
- Exported the final series and emailed to the grantor

Key Outputs

Reusable Map Series, Standardized requirements for quarterly reporting

Impact/Results

Developed a standardized approach to sharing data with a grantor lacking structure. Created a map series template that could easily be used in the future by anyone with minimal GIS experience.

I developed and standardized this map series for quarterly reporting for a grantor that had loose and frequently changing requests for data. We were required to associate the Parcel number(s) with each project, but since there were often multiple parcels per project, I decided to keep the labels on the map instead of in the legend. We also needed to show the topography, local roads and the treated portion of the parcel. This collaborative approach with the grantor exemplifies my ability to communicate, manage expectations and provide a solution. This supported detailed environmental and land management reporting for the rest of our team for the future.
